Karaoke Revolution: American Idol
Action PlayStation2 4.5 (52 votes)

"Karaoke Revolution: American Idol" lets you sing and perform using a USB headset/microphone as you compete through a fully recreated virtual season of the #1 TV show in America. Play the part of an American Idol contestant as you audition, earn an invitation to Hollywood, and ultimately perform on center stage at the finale. As you progress through the game your popularity with the crowd and comments from Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson, both positive and sometimes outrageously negative, will affect whether or not you move on to the next round of competition.

"The actual American Idol stage is available for performances. View larger."

"Duets are back and are just as challenging. View larger."

"Will the audience like you more than the judges? View larger."

"40 songs from the hit show are available to choose from. View larger."
Karaoke, idol style!
Konami's latest foray into the culture of Karaoke mixes the fun of the typical sing-alongs with the star power of the hit TV show American Idol. Design an Idol contestant from scratch or use a photo of yourself (taken with the USB EyeToy Camera, USB Camera not included). Pick out your accessories and clothing but pick wisely- those sensitive-eared Idol judges will be watching and listening, as well as the vast audience who will be voting on your performance.
As in previous games in the "Karaoke Revolution" series, players sing into a USB microphone or headset while their selected song plays sans vocals. While a headset is not included with this title, players are free to use a microphone from a previous installment of "Karaoke Revolution". Once players select a song the lyrics and pitch of the melody are displayed for them to follow.
If a singer can manage to keep within the margins of good pitch, they are awarded bonuses and multipliers for their song rating. A new twist on song rating, however, comes in the forms of the virtual American Idol judges, who will make quips and comments on your performance. The comments aren't just for show- they will actually directly influence your final song score. This is not unlike the actual American Idol show, in which the judge's running commentary can sometimes sway the voters towards a certain performer. The addition of the virtual judges is quite welcome, and it's great to see them congratulate you if you performed well, and equally as fun to see them give light insults to those performances that were lacking.
Over 40 songs
A number of the songs in the title are updated for a contemporary audience and have been used on the actual television show by notable contestants. The breadth and depth of the song list has always been a strong point in "Karaoke Revolution" games, and American Idol is no exception to this rule. From the strong, crooning passages of "You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'" to the fun pop sounds of "Build Me Up Buttercup," there's a track for everybody to enjoy. A number of tracks are especially good for beginners, and the judges will sometimes take pity on a first timers' performance and offer a few more pointers than criticisms. Sometimes.
The lengthy song list for American Idol includes:

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Role-Playing Game Boy 4.5 (22 votes)
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is arguably the best game offered on the original black and white Gameboy (no offense to Metroid II).
Not many people realize that this game came out AFTER the Super Nintendo Zelda game (A Link to the Past), and there are times when you can see the modifications the developers made on the SNES version to make it better in the Gameboy version. The main example of this, and one of the coolest features on Zelda games at the time is the ability to jump in this game to get over obstacles and enemies. Also, the graphics to this game are wonderful compared to other Gameboy games around.
In this adventure, Link awakens on a beach in a world he's never been before. The story doesn't quite go along with the previous three Zelda games. You aren't in Hyrule, Gannon is not the enemy, and Zelda is not even in the game. But the game play is classic Zelda, and there's almost no better thing to do in a video game than play as Link fighting enemies to save the day.
P.S. The side-scrolling "Super Mario" tunnels are the funniest things Nintendo decided to put in this game.

Link's journeys, reinvented
Hailed by many as the best Zelda game since 1998's "Ocarina of Time", "Twilight Princess" thrusts players into a troubled world ravaged by a dangerous magic. Sporting a new, more realistic visual style than the previous Zelda title, Link looks much more like an adult than in previous installments and fits well into an environment that provides Zelda fans with a much more gritty and grim environment to explore. The entirety of the quest fits this darker mood, as both Link and NPC's alike share the same concern for the changes about in Hyrule.
More than just a spiritual successor to previous Zelda installments, "Twilight Princess" offers players a new way of controlling Link through dungeons, forests, towns, and the bizarre Twilight Realm: precise weapon controls with the Wii remote! Players can use the remote to control Links' weapons including the sword, arrows, and boomerang. This new control scheme allows for much faster and more accurate control than on previous Nintendo hardware. For example, waving the remote in the air will result in Link performing the same move with the sword. To fire off on arrow, players "pull back" on a virtual controller string as the Wii remote's speaker lets players know that the projectile is ready for release. It all works incredibly well and adds to the title's immersion and style- you feel more in the center of the action than in previous Zelda games.
As impressive as the new control scheme is, the scope and size of the new land of the Hyrule is equally as impressive- truly the Wii's first epic adventure. Beautifully crafted and four years in the making, the land players travel through is vast and diverse as the dungeons and monsters that lie within. As players collect triforce pieces from the distant sections of the continent, they will get to know many different villages and foes. Thankfully, Link will be able to move over long stretches of land faster thanks to "Epona," your faithful horse. Epona also helps Link become a more effective fighter, as a number of powerful and impressive sword strikes can be launched while galloping through fields of enemies.
The Twilight Realm awaits
Like most games in the Zelda franchise, Link begins his adventure with little more than the clothes he has on an an inkling that something has gone awry. After an initial trip to the Twilight Realm, in which Link appears as a wolf, a friendly shadow dweller named Midna will meet up with players and give helpful advice on gameplay. Fortunately for players, this virtual assistant spells out ways to be a more effective adventurer in and out of the shadow world. Early stages of the game have Link spending a lot of time in the Twilight Realm, and outdoor areas of Hyrule, attempting to clear areas of the strange darkness that has seemingly fallen over every village, forest, and field. As the story progresses, players will learn the cause of the shadows, and what they must to do vanquish them for good.
Puzzling puzzles
Link once again finds himself in a number of classic Zelda-esque puzzle scenarios in which he must light torches to unlock doors, raise and lower water levels, and fight enemies to collect keys and open chests for valuable rupees. A number of the dungeons present unique puzzle challenges that rely on the player's ability to hone their Wii remote's control, such as an air castle in the sky that can only be accessed by an extremely accurate grappling hook toss.
In general, "Twilight Princess" is more challenging than the average Zelda game, with a number of boss battles having protracted hit sequences with little support potions about, and even less warning. Still, there's never been an adventure experience such as this, wherein players can literally charge at a dungeon boss with their fists and punch the air to defeat an enormous foe. As the finest Zelda experience in almost ten years and the game fans have been waiting for, "Twilight Princess" will delight young and old gamers alike.

LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue Complete
Role-Playing PlayStation 4.5 (98 votes)
"Lunar 2: Eternal Blue" is old-school role-playing goodness at its very best. From the story to the simple battle system, it doesn't bore players with the details that can make newer role-playing games unbearable. No, "Lunar 2" won't impress anyone with its likewise old-school graphics, but that's not the point. This game is fun.
The story in "Lunar 2" doesn't take itself as seriously as other role-playing games, which contributes to the fun. The game's hero, Hiro, and his sidekick Ruby must help a young girl locate the goddess Althena. The quest turns out to be long, spanning three disks, most of which hold full-motion video cutscenes.
The video sequences in "Lunar 2" are probably the best part. They mix Japanese anime with computer graphics and are completely stunning. The in-game graphics, on the other hand, are ported straight from the 16-bit Sega CD, with a few enhancements, so those who like eye candy should consider themselves warned. "--Robb Guido"
Pros: Light and fun Super movie sequences that mix anime and computer graphics Cons: Outdated graphics

Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Action Sega Dreamcast 4.5 (112 votes)
Just when it seems 3-D fighting games have permanently made 2-D fighting games obsolete, something like "Marvel vs. Capcom 2" comes along and proves just how deep and fun 2-D fighters can be. It's better than its predecessor in every way, and arguably the best 2-D fighting game to grace the Dreamcast.
The amount of playable characters is enough to put any fighting fan's salivary glands in overdrive. Beginning with favorites such as Spider Man, Wolverine, Ryu, and Chun Li, players can eventually unlock 56 characters. We had our hands full just mastering a few of these fighters, and getting familiar with all 56 would take months of intense practice. There are almost too many moves, all depicted with superb animation and augmented by several tag-team combos. When the match begins, you can pick three characters. Once things heat up, you can call in your pals to unleash a massive move on your opponent. This adds immensely to the game's depth, and button mashers will be in for a shock when they find that their mistimed tag-team moves backfire.
Visually, this game is intense. The large characters are slightly jagged around the edges, but that's more than compensated for by the massive amount of animation frames, colorful special effects, and stunning 3-D backgrounds that are loaded with detail. "Marvel vs. Capcom 2" also delivers a sonic performance that is nearly arcade-perfect. This is a must-buy for any fighting fan, especially those who have a couple of buddies to bash. Just be prepared to put in a lot of time in practice mode if you want to get good. "--T. Byrl Baker"
Pros: Brilliant 3-D backgrounds A massive number of characters to play as Tag-team element adds a fun strategic component to the gameplay Cons: Characters were drawn at low resolution
